LabMercury is the evolving creative practice of artist and designer Andrew D. Gayer. What began as a graphic design studio has gradually become something more personal: a place for visual collections, limited editions, collaborations, and ongoing investigations into art, science, mythology, nature, and design.
LM_ABT.01 — ORIGIN
For more than three decades, Andrew has worked across disciplines: from branding and visual identity to environmental graphics, packaging, and digital design — creating work for hospitality, retail, technology, arts and culture, nonprofit organizations, and businesses of many scales. That experience continues to shape the work through typography, composition, systems, and restraint. But beneath the structure has always been another impulse: to observe, question, collect, and create without requiring every idea to serve a predetermined function.
LM_ABT.02 — PRACTICE
Today, LabMercury reflects a merging of instincts—the structure and discipline of design meeting the freedom and possibility of art.
LM_ABT.03 — METHOD
The work often begins with something familiar, then follows it somewhere less certain. A memory, question, encounter, or half-formed idea becomes the starting point for an exploratory process guided by observation, intuition, and experimentation. What emerges may be recognizable or entirely abstract—an image suspended between what is known and imagined, remembered and invented, present and still becoming.
LM_ABT.04 — PRESENT STATE
Some ideas become artwork or limited editions. Others take the form of collaborations, experiments, Field Studies, or Transmissions. Together, they form a living archive, one shaped by what has already been encountered and what remains unknown.
LabMercury is independent, observational, and continually evolving.
